When we talk about drama, what comes to your mind? Some people say that life is like a drama or that drama is like watching a movie. So, what is drama? Drama is a literary form involving parts written for actors to perform, it can be presented in various media, including radio, film, or television. Drama is a Greek word meaning “action”. Though drama contains music, drawing, sculpture, architecture, literature, and so on, these arts lack action. If there is no action, there is no drama.

You may imagine that you’re sitting in a movie theater and gazing at the screen, the non-action movie would be like slide show. It would be ironic that the movie was not “moving”. All living things can become static like a robot with stiff movements. However, we all know that things are always changing. “I, Robot” was produced in 2004 and the movie’s background was set in 2035. The robots’ motions in this film were just like human being, therefore you might not say that someone’s movement is like a robot anymore.

Most performances can be separated into a visual part and an acoustic part, where acoustic part means sound. Visual techniques are composed of motion, gestures, and facial expressions. Motion is the movement of hands or feet. Gesture means the shape of body. Facial expression is the performance of the face and response of emotions. Motions, gestures, and facial expressions as a whole can not be divided, or they won’t function with other parts.

When you are listening to the radio, there are no images. On the other hand, a silent show has no sound. In these situations, we will definitely focus on the main part of the content despite the fact that both of them might not be in accord with the definition we mentioned before. When a body bends right or left, it implies respect, coquettishness, or contention. When a body turns to the right side or left side with a protruding belly, it implies arrogance, resistance, and strong-mindedness. When one foot is in front and the other is back with our body moving forward, weighing in the front foot, it implies attentiveness, action, and excitement. If our body is moving backwards, it implies care, worry, or negativity.

Some people say that life is like a drama, meaning that our life has ups and downs like the story of a play. Since this year 2007 is just beginning, how about making your own drama right from now on, and let’s meet at the Oscars of real life.
