Why does money attract people so much? Most people would even sacrifice their health by over-working to make money. Of course, the situation of over-working may be caused by other issues like bitter competition or the fact that we’re not the boss.

If we have enough money, we can buy what we want. Money is a tool for us to get something. That is to say we regard so-called money as a currency, a unit of exchange, facilitating the transfer of goods and services. Besides this catch function of currency, you might be more interested in gaining more money. We may wish to win the lottery or clean up in the stock market to own a large fortune and become a millionaire in brief. That is the core reason why we love money, not only the function that money can buy things but a lot of money can give us more power. However, money isn’t anything, but you can do nothing without money. Then, how do we make money? Normally, we all need to work to gain money if we don’t have a goose that lays golden eggs. Though having enough money is important, money should not be the first reason that we work for.

So what is the meaning of work? Here I want to tell you a story.

There were three workers building a wall separately. And a passenger called Curious asked the first worker, “What are you doing?”
The first worker replied, “Didn’t you see that I’m laying bricks?”
Then he asked the second worker, “What are you doing?”

The second worker replied, ‘I’m building a wall?”
Finally, he asked the third worker, “What are you doing?”
And the third worker replied, “We are building a church, and you see that we’ll have a splendor church when we finish the construction after a while.”

In this story, the same thing with different aspect of thinking makes difference. So what is your job mean to you? Just are some boring tasks, complicated and not easy works? Or fulfill your dream? And what are you doing now? Listening to my speech? Learning English? Or managing your life in a different way by joining toastmasters club?

Alright, if you haven’t found your philosophy of work besides money, then let’s discuss the other side.

How do we control expenses in daily life, to make more money or decrease the expenses? Like download music or movies from internet. I think it’s another issue about intellectual property. About the expanse in our life, even though there are groups like card slaves to stand for those who pay money without cleverness, most people would reveal conservation of consumption according to the survey of Consumer Confidence Index. Therefore many people keep their money instead of spending it. But we can do nothing without paying money or making some investments. It’s time for us to try some different ways in order to prevent devaluation. Nowadays, there are many choices such as stocks, funds, and even insurance despite the low interest rates in a bank. Moreover, it might be more important to invest in ourselves. I don’t mean that you must go some classes after work though self-study is a must for everybody. How about making an investment in your life after work? Recreation can release your pressure and make you more efficient in work.

Finally, I want to ask you, what is the purpose of work? Everyone should have their own answers. Someone might want to get the money, prove his ability, or contribute to the society. Between all the answers, I prefer one of these, the purpose of work is for not to work.If you were rich, would you want to work? Most people would answer no at first. Then after some thinking, they would find that they still want to work, but work in a better way, not so tired and not for money. Money is only the medium. If you agree with me, then your purpose of work may be the fulfillment of your dream and finding the answer of who you are. Who cares money?
